Education
The local commitment to education can be seen in both the superb K-12 education system with its support from parents and local taxpayers, and our institutions for higher learning. Clark College in Vancouver, has been serving Southwest Washington for more than 75 years, while Washington State University's non-resident Vancouver branch has been giving courses in Clark County since the 1980s and now offers more than 35 fields of study on a beautiful, spacious campus in the Salmon Creek area just north of town.
Since 1933, Clark College has proven itself a staple of Southwest Washington's higher education system. While providing the standard two-year Associate degree and an array of vocational and technical programs, Clark also aims to meet the needs of the entire community at affordable costs. Local high school students can enroll in the Running Start program and earn college credits, while adults can continue their education in a number of degree and certificate programs—or take non-credit, low-pressure courses just for the fun of learning.
Washington State University Vancouver is a renowned research institution committed to offering a highly personalized educational experience. The 350-acre campus showcases amazing views of snow-capped Cascade Range peaks. The university itself maintains a considerable number of computer labs, including group instruction labs, fine arts labs, and a microprocessor lab. The library contains more than 800 hardcopy journals and access to more than 9,000 electronic journals and newspapers, in addition to 20,000-plus books.
